Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa
This visa is for international students wishing to start a business in the UK.
International students (from outside the EU economic area) who have a genuine, credible and sustainable business idea (not property related) have the potential to apply for the Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa.
What do I need to do?
Firstly, please come up to the fourth floor where the Careers, Employability and Enterprise Service is based. We will have an initial discussion about your idea and see where you need to focus your attention.
Once you have your initial business idea, you need to start working on developing it into a viable business plan. To support you with this, we advise that you apply to do the Business Enterprise Certificate which is free and available to all students. We suggest you begin developing your idea at least eight or nine months before you visa expires. This is to ensure that your business plan is viable and robust.
Once you are ready to apply for the Tier 1 visa, you will be asked to submit your business plan to a panel of people. If you are successful you will be awarded your endorsement from the university and you can then go ahead and apply for your Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur visa.
Before coming to see us about your idea, consider the questions below. How does your idea meet this criteria?
Is the business offering something more than merely competing with similar local traders?
Is there a need for the business in the UK market that is not already being fulfilled?
Is the idea bringing something new to the pre-existing UK/global business market?
Do you have realistic, sustainable, product goals?
Is there a long-term plan for the business?
Is the business likely to gain sufficient traction?
Is it a business with a potential for growth?
Would this business successfully scale to be a part of the national market?
